ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Steven Porter holds BS, MA, PhD, and PD degrees in fine
arts and educational administration. His career has continued to incorporate
four streams of activity: education, writing, music, and politics.
He began teaching in 1967 and retired from active classroom work in 2003.
In 1984 he founded the Rod Serling School of Fine Arts in Binghamton,
NY and remained its director for eighteen years. His last teaching assignment
was at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA.
Dr. Porter has authored more than 20 books in a variety of fields: fine
arts, education, political science, philosophy, and fiction. His study
of the decline of American public education, Wisdom's
Passing, is one
of the definitive accounts of our modern educational crisis.
He has published more than 150 works for the concert and theatrical stage.
His choral compositions continue to be performed around the world each
year.
Dr. Porter began his political involvement in the 1960s working for Reform
Democratic candidates in New York City. He served in Robert Kennedy's
campaign for the Presidency in 1968, and has twice run for the U.S. House
of Representatives.
Today, Dr. Porter continues to be active in all his areas of endeavor.
In addition, he and his wife of 36 years, Rita, devote much of their time
to the rescue of abused and abandoned dogs.
